About the Project

Strengthening Digital Twin and Smart Manufacturing Skills in Vocational Education

DigiSmart4.0 is a 12-month Erasmus+ KA210-VET Small-Scale Partnership project that aims to modernize vocational education by integrating Digital Twin technology and smart manufacturing systems into VET curricula. The project is coordinated by TCR Education Center Dorsten GmbH (Germany) in partnership with Tacettin Aslan Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School (Türkiye).

The transformation of manufacturing through Industry 4.0 technologies has reshaped production environments worldwide. Digital Twin systems, IoT-enabled machinery, real-time simulation platforms, and AI-driven optimization processes are now central components of modern smart factories. However, vocational education systems must adapt rapidly to ensure that students are equipped with the practical competencies required in this new industrial landscape. DigiSmart4.0 directly addresses this challenge by bridging the gap between traditional technical training and emerging digital production technologies.

Within the project, an innovative Digital Twin-based training module will be developed specifically for vocational students in technical and manufacturing fields. The module will cover the scientific and technological foundations of Digital Twin systems, smart manufacturing architectures, sensor integration, real-time simulation processes, and AI-supported production optimization. By combining theoretical understanding with applied digital tools, the project ensures that learning remains both industry-relevant and practice-oriented.

A key component of DigiSmart4.0 is the structured integration of industry-standard simulation software and platforms. Students will gain hands-on experience with tools such as Siemens NX and Ansys Twin Builder, enabling them to model, simulate, and analyze production systems within digital environments. This applied approach enhances their technical problem-solving skills and strengthens their readiness for Industry 4.0-driven workplaces.

Beyond student training, DigiSmart4.0 places strong emphasis on teacher professional development. Educators participating in the project will receive targeted training to enhance their digital competencies and pedagogical capacity in advanced manufacturing technologies. By empowering teachers with updated knowledge and digital tools, the project ensures sustainable implementation of Digital Twin-based education beyond the project duration.

The developed training module will be piloted with vocational students, and systematic evaluation processes will assess its effectiveness. Feedback from both students and teachers will inform revisions and improvements, ensuring that the final outputs are pedagogically sound, technically robust, and adaptable to different vocational contexts.

DigiSmart4.0 contributes not only to individual skill development but also to institutional capacity building. Through transnational collaboration between Germany and Türkiye, the partnership strengthens knowledge exchange, fosters innovation in VET systems, and supports digital transformation at the institutional level. The final outputs — including the Digital Twin training module, teaching materials, pilot results, and implementation guidelines — will be disseminated to ensure wider impact across vocational education communities.

By combining expertise in digital manufacturing, vocational pedagogy, and applied simulation technologies, DigiSmart4.0 establishes a strong framework for future-oriented vocational training. The project ultimately aims to support vocational students in becoming digitally competent, industry-ready, and adaptable professionals capable of contributing to the smart manufacturing ecosystems of tomorrow.
